Welcome! I'm a water chick as well as a t1 diabetic - the 2 can coexist - no worries there. Regarding D - Do your best, learn all you can, remember every day is different -and ALWAYS find the funny ;)
I come from a family where 4 out of 8 immediate family members were or are Type 1 and I was diagnosed on my parents Anniversary & Halloween. So you could say I have "timing" on my side.
I do Stand-Up Comedy about Diabetes because laughter has always allowed me to learn and cope with whatever bothers me. I love speaking to patient groups and Diabetes Organizations because when I make them laugh, I know I'm making them learn.
My favorite color is green; I love spicy food & chocolate, and being on or near the water makes me happy and calm.
I have a diabetes blog called Diabetesaliciousness.
Diabetes requires us to learn a new game everyday. I know it's a struggle HDG, but u can do it. Your body does not have to fail u. I found that even after 25 years of being a diabetic, who thought she knew it all, could learn nothing new. I WAS WRONG. 8 years ago when I made my first appt with my diabetes educator and diatician, a whole new world opened up. Take blood sugars, start exercising - even if it's just walking twice a day for 20 minutes at a stretch. Make an appt with a diabetes educator and get on the pump. Knowledge is power and it equals control when it comes to diabetes. U can do anything and I know that u can get handle on this! We all complain- that's ok, it's part of the deal. But take ownership and you'll start to feel better!
Before I got diagnosed with diabetes I used to think it was annoying to hear people talk about their diabetes all the time, especially ones that didn't take care of themselves. After my last doctor visit I now realize why they did. It's hard living with diabetes, not knowing which part of your body will fail you next. It was easy not to complain when my sugar was easily controlled.
