my birthday is next week.  normally this is celebrated by a quiet affair at home with my family where all the food has its carb counts accounted for and i could take a shot of insulin after testing my blood sugar and it was simple.  this year, however, things are quite different.  not only have i started pump therapy (which i am still trying to get the hang of) but i am no longer at home.  i've moved from my quite and simple life in central new york to viginia to be with my fiance and this birthday will be no quite affair at home.  we'll be spending a day at busch gardens (which looks nifty), providing me with a whole slew of problems to solve in the process..  i'll have to bring extra everything, find a way to completely secure my pump onto my person at all times (except for during water rides, which presents a whole new set of difficulties) without it taking the chance of unclipping from me or a curious child trying to take a look at the "funny string" hanging out of my shirt, and figure out how to eat theme park food without a trip to the hospital.  first things first.  i'm going to call the park today and ask them about thier food to see if they have any sort of nutrition facts i can look at to choose my meals and snacks wisely.  if not, i'm basically low carbing it the whole day.  i already know that they have lockers you can rent for the day, so i can put my extra infusion sets and other needed items there incase i need them.  the biggest issue is my pump and the water.  i either have to keep it locked up in the locker during the water rides (i'll have to ask how hot those lockers get), zip it up in ziplock baggies (not my favorite choice), or see if the ride attendant can hold it for me (minimed's suggestion to me).  i'll just have to see how it goes with the phone call.  wish me luck so i can have fun and not  suffer any ill consequenses for it.

I know what you mean about the amusement park. I experienced that last summer. I went there because it was my step-son's birthday and his cousin's birthday too. After we got home I felt really tired and weak. I thought it was from spending the day at the park and it was hot out that day. I ate a little fruit and started feeling better. THat's when I realized that what I was really feeling earlier was a sugar low. Good luck and be careful. I know I will be careful the next time I go.
