My name is Rick and I have had Diabetes for a little over 2 1/2 years ago at age 31. Needless to say it was earth shattering! I did my best to grin and bear it with little to no options available to me.
It took almost six months to even get to a place of acceptance but have always tried to be vigilant and pro-active about doing my part to manage my Diabetes care. There have been wins and I have been defeated, but generally have had a healthy outlook on whats to come.
I empathize for everyone who is a Type 1 because I know exactly the frustration and anxiety that it causes. I went to my "Endo" last week and we have discovered that I have Addison's Disease & Hashimoto's Disease (under-active Thyroid) they are both auto-immune disorders.
I'm adjusting and re-learning what to do and not to do having ups and downs...mostly up's in the form of elevated BG numbers. I'm at a place where I think I can only take so much and hope & pray that there are no more surprises to come. I have a smart & beautiful totally supportive finance who is my type 3...along with a great family.
I'm about to start on the Omnipod whats the the story on it Yes or No...they all suck right?I look forward to learning and getting a better sense of what my "Dlife" peers are going thru. Good Luck Family!!!
If exercise and my medication are the answer then I will not fight them only embrace them and do what I can to help manage this condition. As for the constant anxiety and stress..."One Bite at A Time"
hey rick! it was great to see you too this past weekend; sorry i couldn't stick around longer...thanks for introducing me to this site. i even passed it along to a couple of my friends/classmates with diabetes. i really admire your persistence and ability to remain positive when approaching your diabetes care :) i just signed up for a 10K race on august 31 here in chicago, so i'll be sure to let you know how that goes - wish me luck!
Yea, I am really bad when it comes to taking the meds for the thyroid issue, or any pills in general, although after seeing my last TSH result I need to really just accept a routine for the pills and make sure it can get under controlled. I do have a good support system with my long term BF, family and really close friends, although most don't quite understand why I feel the way I do about a lot of things with diabetes and complications. So thats why I like these sites :) Thanks for asking. So short answer long, I haven't been taking the thyroid medication and will probably be starting something later new as I just got my TSH tested today and the Dr said it was greatly elevated and he would be sending me an updated Rx. I'll let you know how it messes with the sugars when I start it!
