I've been living with diabetes since I was 12 years old, and it makes me a bit sad to think that's over two thirds of my life. Although at the same time, it makes me feel very lucky to live in a time when you CAN live with diabetes for over two thirds of your life.
I'm currently "between jobs", having worked in the advertising department of a cable company for 15 years. The atmosphere became miserable and the stress was so high, and my husband and I decided it wasn't worth the toll it was taking on my health. I'm currently taking on-line courses in web design, with hopes of free-lancing from home some day.
Speaking of my husband, we have been married for almost four years (my, it goes by so fast). He is the sweetest and most supportive man I've ever know, and he helps me stay strong every day. We also recently adopted our first pet (or actually, he showed up and adopted us) a sweet, 16+ year old kitty named Charlie. Charlie keeps me company, gives me lots of kitty cuddles, and makes me smile and laugh on a regular basis!
June 2008: I just started a diabetes blog!! Come visit me at http://www.bittersweet-karen.blogspot.com
hi again-just read your 2nd Blog "Goodbye Sweet Charlie" and saw the photo of Charlie-you wouldn't read about it-he is the spitting image of my Georgie Boy-hang in there KarenCT-as I said before-it is a great loss when you loose an animal-have you considered getting another one yet?-look after yourself-and don't forget your Diabetes-Goodbye Sweet Charlie-say hello to my four cats in cat heaven-deedee
sorry to hear about Charlie-I have lost 4 cats and all with kidney failure-after my last cat passed away 2005, I said that I was never going to get another animal-guess what-the next day I said to my daughters that I really missed Mitzi, and wanted another cat-they took me to the RSPCA-our animal shelter, and I got the most beautiful tempered cat ever-I thought Mitzi had a beautiful temperment-BOY-Georgie Boy runs rings around Mitzi-don't get me wrong-I had Mitzi for 15 1/2 years, and she loved me unconditionally, but Georgie Boy is the sweetest cat ever-he seems to know when I am having a low/high and comes and sits or lies on the bed as close as he can get, and just lays there until I get up-I have a magnet which says "Only my cat understands me" and another "My cat is an angel from heaven above, with sandpaper kisses and a heart full of love"-Soooooooo true-he is only 3years old, so I am hoping to have him for a long while yet-have you thought about getting another cat-I have heard people say that dogs know when it's owners are having a low- and lick them on the face to arouse them-maybe a dog might be better-good luck-thinking of you-I know how hard it is when you loose an animal-deedee
