Hi guys

I am a relatively new T2 diabetic, 91 kg, 181 cm high, and at diagnosis 105kg (ideal 80 kg (BMI says max 78kg)

My  fasting reading at diagnosis was 325 mg/dl. After eliminating pasta, postatoes, sweet stuff and bread, my fasting BG was 130 after 7 weeks.

Now my morning readings are 140-165, and some afternoons is 105-120, but avg around 130.

But 2 hours after eating a normal lunch or dinner (only fish, vegetables, no bread or other carbs) it can be 180.

Sometimes (evening) I go to eat a normal pizza, and drink 2-3 glasses of red wine, and the next morning the BG is max 105 mg/dl.

Confused?
Yes!!!!

I asked my doctor a simialr question reguarding my morining glucose levels. The answer was during the night if your liver senses that your body needs more sugar it will send it out into your body, whether you really need it or not. (This is for type 2). The doctor put me on Lantus Shots at night to help control my morning numbers. After about 2 weeks of injections I've seen a difference in my fasting glucose numbers...a good difference. I was running 180 of morning now my morning glucose is 114. It's almost time for an increase on my Lantus injections I'm shotting for a morning fasting number in the 90's.

I am sorry to disagree but, I was a reckless teenager with T1. I drank alot at parties until my mid 20's. My experience has been varied according to different types of alcohol. Some raised and some lowered. I don't play that game anymore except for a daily glass of red wine to help treat Gastroparesis due to neuropathy in my stomach. My understanding is, protien will raise your blood sugars 2-3 hours later due to the fact that is how long it takes the body to convert them. This is just what I have read. For me, 180 isn't unreasonable. My guess would be that if it isn't affecting your A1C and you aren't feeling physically bad then I wouldn't pay too much worry to it. Like I say though, that is just me. All of us are different.

The wine will lower your BG. Any alcohol will.
