Exercise helps a lot...for me

As a type 2 diabetic I am aware that the right food and exercise can lower my blood glucose levels significantly. I was diagnosed last year (BG 378) and got it down to reasonable levels rather quickly by eating healthily and exercising.

For the past few weeks I have exercised close to none, and I have eaten too many carbohydrates. (however, I still never eat desserts etc)

Today I ate a big hotdog and a double-malt beer, and three hours later my BG was 268.
So I decided to lower it by exercising, and got into my suit and did a few push ups and abdominals, and then jumped on the gym bike for a good strong 35 minute "ride".

Right after having done the 35 minutes, the BG was down to 108, and 30 minutes after having stopped it was down 96.

I know everybody reacts differently to food and exercise, but I had forgotten how effective it is for me.

I have learned that exercise is critical, especially to those of us who have type 2. I work out almost daily. I was mostly just walking but I joined a gym in January. Now I walk to the gym and lift weights, then walk back home. My blood sugar is always good even if I do eat something I shouldn't. By the way, my fitness level has improved so much I am participating in my local Tour de Cure event here. I will be doing a 20 mile bike ride to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Keep going to the gym or whatever you do to exercise.
